Dr. Brian Willis is the Interim Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at LSU Health. He first joined the LSU Health Neurosurgery staff in 1992 specializing in general neurosurgery, including craniocerebral trauma, brain tumors, hydrocephalus, degenerative disease of the spine, and microsurgical techniques. He had additional training in pediatric and stereotactic neurosurgery.

Dr. Willis graduated from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport in 1982 and completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Utah in 1989. After three years on faculty at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, he returned home to Shreveport to join the Department of Neurosurgery faculty at LSU Health where he trained students and residents for 21 years, rising to the clinical rank of professor.

In 2013, he left LSU Health Shreveport to enter into private practice at Neurosurgical Associates of Texarkana.  Upon his departure from LSU Health, he retained the position of Professor Emeritus of Neurosurgery. He returned in 2017 to accept the position of Interim Chairman of Neurosurgery.

He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is a past president of the Louisiana Neurosurgical Society. Dr. Willis also served in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy Reserve with the rank of Commander from 2003 to 2012, and from 2004-2005, deployed to the Anbar Province in Iraq with the 1st Battalion/23rd Marines as their Battalion Surgeon.
