The LEVY Conference was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2010, in the Main Auditorium of LSUHSC-Shreveport. More than 200 people attended the conference. The featured speaker, Dr. Steven Giannotta, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Southern Califorina Keck School of Medicine, delivered a presentation titled, "Cranial Base Approaches for Intracranial Aneurysms: Historical Perspectives and Current Concepts."
Dr. Steven Giannotta received his medical degree from the University of Michigan, completed his neurosurgical training there, and then went on to the University of Southern California. He has held important positions both in the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Giannotta has gained international recognition for his seminal work in cerebrovascular surgery, as well as skull base tumors. He has surgically treated over 2,000 intracranical aneurysms and removed more than 400 acoustic neuromas. He has over 200 publications, book chapters, and books, and has been a visiting professor and invited guest speaker in numerous national and international venues.
The lecture series is in honor of Mary Louise and Ben Levy, Jr. Their son, Robert Levy,and daughter, Ann Kantor, attended the event.
The Department of Neurosurgery’s list of Endowed Visiting Professors is comprised of influential members of the neurosurgical society.
