Brain Tumor Patient Goes on to Play College Baseball, Featured on Local News.

Tonight, KPLC television in Lake Charles, Louisiana is airing a success story featuring college baseball player, Austin Nelson.

On November 30, 2016, Austin Nelson underwent a procedure to remove a brain tumor. He had a rare skull base schwannoma in the cavernous sinus, and was operated on successfully by Dr. Anil Nanda at University Health Shreveport. Dr. Nanda believed there would be no long-term effects and that Austin would be able to return to sports successfully.

Over the weekend, Nelson made his debut with college baseball and hit a home run.

The type of tumor that Nelson had and the subsequent procedure to remove it is a rare case, which will be published in a medical journal.
