Application Process

We participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) for the Neurosurgical Match. Applicants must register with both services to apply for programs.

Required documents for applying with ERAS and our program include:

  • MyERAS Application Worksheet
  • LORs (Applicants may assign up to four letters to a program)
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical School Transcript (provided by the medical school)
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (provided by the medical school)
  • Wallet-sized color photograph
  • USMLE Transcript (transmitted by the NBME)
  • ECFMG Status Report (International Medical Graduates (IMGs) only)

Our cutoff date for the receipt of applications from ERAS is the end of October.

Residents selected should meet the requirements as established for licensure/permit as outlined by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners. For more information on these requirements and how to apply for state licensure, visit LSBME.

Interview Process

Interviews are arranged by invitation and are based on a review of the ERAS application material. Generally held October through January, the interview process begins with a Friday evening arrival and dinner with current residents. Saturday morning is the interview and hospital tour. Specific details will be provided to the applicants selected for interviews.

Candidates selected for interviews will be notified by e-mail or telephone. Residents are selected based on their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation, character, and integrity. This program does not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability or veteran status.

  • Have a valid ECFMG certificate
  • Register with the NRMP
  • Apply through ERAS (see required documents above)
